Fun!

We've been enjoying Edie and the family while they're here in SoCal for a short visit. We were even able to get together with Andy and Megan and the kids in Balboa Island, just like we did last year.

Playdate!!

We had a playdate yesterday at Emily's house. I cannot tell you how much fun it was - for the kids, and the moms! Emily had this cool little mini-waterpark (that I'm totally considering buying now), and the kids just had a blast.

And this was Kendall just minutes after leaving Emily's house.

Sorry...

Sorry for the lack of blogging. My parents were here for 10 days, and just left on Saturday.

We had a great visit with them. Here's some pictures...

A really cool thing that happened while they were here, was a little mini-reunion. My dad has a son and grandkids that live down in San Diego. I've met Victor (my dad's son) and his wife and son before, but haven't seen them for 7 years. And then 2 of my dad's grandkids, I hadn't seen since I was 6, and they were way too little to even remember me. So it was like I was meeting them for the first time. My dad's granddaughter, Amber, has a daughter of her own now, which means my dad is a great-grandfather, which is kinda weird!! It was so nice to meet them all.

Best $7 I've ever spent!

So, at church, they have this little Fisher Price Doodle Pro in the nursery. When Kendall goes in the nursery during Sunday School, this is the thing she gravitates toward, and we have to pry it out of her hands when we leave.

So, I got the great idea to buy one of our own, and take it to church with us, so maybe she'll actually sit quietly thru the service (instead of yelling, "choo choo" when a train passes).

Today, we were meeting up with Edie and the kids, and Kendall was being a little restless before we left. So, I went to Target before I met with them, to buy one of these things, thinking I could pull it out if she was being particularly ornery (like that word?) to calm her down.

So I bought it, and kept it in the bag.

Well....fast forward to us driving down Hollywood Blvd, checking out all the freaks in homemade costumes. I pulled over in front of the Chinese Theatre, so the kids could get a better look, when all the sudden, Kendall started screaming! I quickly scanned the area to see if there were any characters that would scare her, but I didn't see any.

The next second, frickin' Freddy Krueger - of all people - stuck his head and his long Freddy Krueger fingers in Edie's window, and said, "Sorry, I didn't see the kids." To which Edie told him, "Okay, so keep moving!!! Go away!!!"

Needless to say, Kendall was pretty upset by the site of him, so, I whipped out the handy dandy Doodle Pro, and she immediately stopped crying, and started "drawing."

She's been attached to it ever since.

Kandid Kendall

I was cleaning the kitchen yesterday when I heard Kendall talking outside (I leave the back door open alot, so she can come and go as she pleases). I broke out the camera and took some very sleuth-like video footage.

A Day At The Beach

This weekend, Mike was in town for a visit. So a bunch of us got together for a beach day at Hermosa Beach. Lots of fun was had by all! It was such a perfect day for the beach - not too chilly, and not too hot.

Busy Weekend

Saturday was my birthday. And we did something super fun and fantastic to celebrate! We bought a new washer!!!

What? That's not fun? Yeah, I guess you're right. Not when it's out of necessity.

Let me back up...

Friday morning, I'm skyping with my mom while running a load of laundry. Our laundry room is upstairs. All the sudden I hear a dripping sound. That's usually not a good sign.

I ran upstairs, and opened the laundry room door, only to find the entire room flooded!

Long story short...we needed to get a new washer.

Which brings us to Saturday, my birthday.

Really, it ended up being a pretty nice day! We spontaneously went out for breakfast at the Omelette and Waffle Shop, then on to Lowe's to check out washers, where we found one we really liked, but we didn't buy it. Then we went out to Orange County to a scratch and dent appliance outlet to see if they had any deals. They didn't really have anything we were too impressed with. So then we went to Best Buy to see if they had the same washer that we found at Lowe's, but for cheaper. Because we found out that Lowe's price matches, and beats the price by 10%. It was a good stop, because they did in fact have the washer we wanted for cheaper. So, then it was back to Lowe's to buy the washer. It's not a fancy front loader, but it's a pretty nice top loader, with a hand washing function! I'm pretty interested in trying that out.

Once we bought it, we came home and took naps - all 3 of us.

When we got up, Melissa's husband came over and helped Grant move the old washer out and the new washer in - which was much needed!

After that, we went out to the Sixth Street Bistro, where we had a really great dinner.

Once we got home, Grant gave me my gift - the Flight of the Conchords Season 1 DVD!! I blogged about FOTC here, and so I was pretty excited to actually own the first season!

Sunday, of course, we went to church. While we were getting ready for church, Grant showed me his fancy new tie that his mom had made for him - it had a picture of Kendall and I on it! Very clever! When we came home, Kendall gave Grant our cards - which he really loved.

Later in the day, I decided to grill a pizza. All I can say is it was pretty amazing. Megan, I think you'd definitely be interested in this recipe!

All in all, it was a busy weekend, but a good one.

More fun with the In-laws!

While Grant's parents were here, we did more than just go to Disneyland and California Adventure.

Grant took them to the Korean Friendship Bell, which is just a couple miles from our house, and has fantastic views. We also went to The castaway, which is this place in Burbank, famous for it's amazing brunch buffet and views. After The Castaway, we went to The Getty Center - again, known for its views of LA, but it's also a museum, and all-in-all, just a cool place to visit. I'm so thankful that our gloomy weather that we've been having lately cleared up, so we could have some really incredibly clear days while they visited.

Another cool thing we did was visit the Morgan dealership in Santa Monica. A Morgan is a British-made sports car, that Grant's dad has a love for. When he was in college, his friend got a Morgan, and they took it all over Europe. Morgans are pretty rare, and dealerships in the States are very hard to find, so Grant's dad was pretty excited to visit this place. They really are beautiful cars. Oh, and by the way, Summer - this is where we were when you called. That's why, when you asked, "Where are you?" it wasn't the easiest answer.

So, that was our time with Grant's family! It was action-packed, but a lot of fun.

Disneyland & California Adventure

While Grant's parents were here, we went to both Disneyland and California Adventure. The first day we went to Disneyland, it was kinda rough for Kendall and I. The day before, we had just gotten back from Indiana, and had a very rough night's sleep, since Kendall was still functioning on Eastern time. Even though we were tired and grumpy, we still managed to have fun. Here's some pictures of that first day.

Things Kendall loved: It's a Small World, Toon Town, the Winnie the Pooh ride, and the Flying Dumbo ride (emphasis on Toon Town)
Things Kendall hated: Pirates of the Caribbean, meeting Mickey Mouse, being in her stroller for too long, while we were trying to get her to fall asleep

We waited a few days before going back, giving Kendall and I more of a chance to get rested up - and we were both feeling much better! This time around, we went to California Adventure first, and then to Disney. So here's some pics from California Adventure...

Things Kendall loved: The spinning Flik ride, seeing the characters walk by
Things Kendall hated: The 3-D Muppet show - I think it was just too loud and too much for her

We went back over to Disney when we were done with California Adventure, mainly to visit Toon Town, since Kendall loved it so much the first time around. Sure enough, as soon as we stepped into Toon Town, Kendall was a very happy camper. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of getting in line for the Roger Rabbit ride - we thought it'd only be 5 minutes, but it turned into 40. And it wasn't a very fun ride. By the time it was over, it was basically time to leave the park. Here's some more Disney pics...

Things Kendall loved: Toon Town
Things Kendall hated: The Roger Rabbit ride

All in all, Kendall really, really loves Toon Town. If we go to Disney again in the near future, we'll probably just spend our time there. And really, we enjoyed it, too. It's such a fun, cute little area.
