Someone back me up here...

Yesterday, I got a wedding invitation from my cousin, JR. I come upstairs and tell Grant, "JR's getting married." To which Grant said, "That's cool."

Then, about a minute later, as I was still looking at the invitation, I said, "So, you up for going to Maryland for a wedding in July?"

He then said, "Who's wedding?"

I looked shocked and said, "JR's. Who else's?"

He then proceeded to ask me if he was supposed to make that connection, and I very adamantly said yes! We hadn't changed the subject, we hadn't moved on from the fact that I just said JR's getting married, so isn't it obvious who's wedding I'm talking about?

Someone please give me some insight. Am I wrong for thinking he should've known whose wedding I was referring to? For any men that might read this, and somehow see how Grant could have been confused as to whose wedding I was talking about, your input is greatly appreciated as well.

  1. this happens all the time with me and my husband, he can't seem to make connections. he says its because he's not choosing to multi-task his thoughts, and so if he's watching tv, that's all thats on his mind. silly men.

  5. Well, personally I wasn't there, but maybe the fact that he didn't know you got the info about JR's wedding from an invitation (but rather thought you'd heard from your mom or something) had something to do with it. Maybe your question about going to a wedding seemed totally unrelated because THAT question was definitely based on something you got in the mail, not to mention it was like a minute after the first statement. And maybe, but probably not, Grant's intently "studying" on the computer when you came in had something to do with it. But, like I said, I wasn't there so maybe I'm way off.

  6. yo_mama really has some good wisdoms ;)
That kind of situation happens here, too. I believe we could both logically blame that lack-of-connection effect on schooling...but we could just be lying to ourselves! :o)

  8. Stinker, you're so wrong. I may only be educated to the 8th grade level, but yo_mama has the mind of a tack--and tacks have good minds.

I am with Grant. If Kelly had gone directly from "JRs getting married" to "...Maryland...", the connection is obvious. The fact that she waited a minute between her statement and question would leave one to assume that her mind had switched subjects with JRs impending marriage reminding her of a different wedding.

  11. This one seems pretty obvious to me. Since Grant was intently studying (or surfing the internet) on the computer, the response "thats cool" was basically his way of saying he heard you say something but didn't really process exactly what it was you said. Therefore, since he didn't really "hear" what you said about JR getting married, I could see why he didn't make the connection. Now, whether he should have heard you're original statement is another question?
