More fun with the In-laws!

While Grant's parents were here, we did more than just go to Disneyland and California Adventure.

Grant took them to the Korean Friendship Bell, which is just a couple miles from our house, and has fantastic views. We also went to The castaway, which is this place in Burbank, famous for it's amazing brunch buffet and views. After The Castaway, we went to The Getty Center - again, known for its views of LA, but it's also a museum, and all-in-all, just a cool place to visit. I'm so thankful that our gloomy weather that we've been having lately cleared up, so we could have some really incredibly clear days while they visited.

Another cool thing we did was visit the Morgan dealership in Santa Monica. A Morgan is a British-made sports car, that Grant's dad has a love for. When he was in college, his friend got a Morgan, and they took it all over Europe. Morgans are pretty rare, and dealerships in the States are very hard to find, so Grant's dad was pretty excited to visit this place. They really are beautiful cars. Oh, and by the way, Summer - this is where we were when you called. That's why, when you asked, "Where are you?" it wasn't the easiest answer.

So, that was our time with Grant's family! It was action-packed, but a lot of fun.

Disneyland & California Adventure

While Grant's parents were here, we went to both Disneyland and California Adventure. The first day we went to Disneyland, it was kinda rough for Kendall and I. The day before, we had just gotten back from Indiana, and had a very rough night's sleep, since Kendall was still functioning on Eastern time. Even though we were tired and grumpy, we still managed to have fun. Here's some pictures of that first day.

Things Kendall loved: It's a Small World, Toon Town, the Winnie the Pooh ride, and the Flying Dumbo ride (emphasis on Toon Town)
Things Kendall hated: Pirates of the Caribbean, meeting Mickey Mouse, being in her stroller for too long, while we were trying to get her to fall asleep

We waited a few days before going back, giving Kendall and I more of a chance to get rested up - and we were both feeling much better! This time around, we went to California Adventure first, and then to Disney. So here's some pics from California Adventure...

Things Kendall loved: The spinning Flik ride, seeing the characters walk by
Things Kendall hated: The 3-D Muppet show - I think it was just too loud and too much for her

We went back over to Disney when we were done with California Adventure, mainly to visit Toon Town, since Kendall loved it so much the first time around. Sure enough, as soon as we stepped into Toon Town, Kendall was a very happy camper. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of getting in line for the Roger Rabbit ride - we thought it'd only be 5 minutes, but it turned into 40. And it wasn't a very fun ride. By the time it was over, it was basically time to leave the park. Here's some more Disney pics...

Things Kendall loved: Toon Town
Things Kendall hated: The Roger Rabbit ride

All in all, Kendall really, really loves Toon Town. If we go to Disney again in the near future, we'll probably just spend our time there. And really, we enjoyed it, too. It's such a fun, cute little area.

Tagged!

So, I'm slowly making my way through everyone's blogs, since things have been so crazy lately. And I saw that Jenn tagged me about a week ago, so it's taken a while, but here it is...

This is the 4th picture from the 4th album.

It's a picture of Grant and Kendall with his mom in our backyard, back in September. And I just thought of a random connection to Jenn in this picture - this is the dress she bought for Kendall!

There's some haze out there over the ocean, but you can make out Catalina Island on the horizon of the left side of the picture.

So now I'm tagging....Melissa (Mookie's mom), Cheri, Haley, and Jen.

Here's what you do:

Open the 4th picture folder on your computer.
Open the 4th picture and post it on your blog.
Explain the picture.
Tag 4 people to do the same!

I can't even believe it - a dream come true!!

A Little Sister!

That's right, folks - Kendall is getting a little sister! The baby was very cooperative during the ultrasound, and we are 100% sure she's a little girl.

I've been waiting for this!

Kendall's hair is FINALLY long enough to put into pigtails! The best thing about it - she actually LETS me do it! She looks so grown up to us now.

My blogging might be a little limited after this post. Kendall and I are headed off to Indiana for a few days to visit my best friend, Kellie. And when we get back, Grant's parents will be here for about another week.

Not San Francisco

So, we found out while we were in San Fran, that there's redwoods basically across the Golden Gate Bridge at Muir Woods. We weren't planning to go there (since we didn't even know about it), but once we found out, we put that high on our list.

It was pretty incredible! Muir Woods is just a small little place, but has some incredible trees. I was so glad we made the time to go.

John Muir, the conservationist whom Muir Woods is named after, had this to say about this particular place (keep in mind that he travelled all over this region):

This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world.

San Francisco in Pictures

I won't bore you with all the details, but we're back home now, and we had a fantastic trip!

We did all the normal things - Alcatraz, cable cars, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, and all sorts of other things.

We have arrived!

We are in San Francisco for the next few days! I was dreading the drive (6+ hours), but it was more than okay. Kendall did awesome, and it went by pretty fast!

Here's a few pictures...the first one was from our little picnic lunch in a Jack-In-The-Box parking lot in a place that I don't even think was a town. It was somewhere along I-5 between Bakersfield and nowhere. They didn't even have real grass...they had turf. And it was so hot outside the turf burned Kendall's barefeet. It seriously had to be around 100 degrees!

Sleeping Beauty...

And here's our first real glimpse of San Fran! It's such a beautiful city - I love it already.

Movin' and Shakin'

Well, last night, we experienced our first earthquake.

I was sitting on the couch, browsing the internet. Grant was in the recliner, talking to his brother. All of the sudden, I felt this kind of faint shaking - which, at first, I thought someone in the parking lot near us had their bass up really high. Then, it wasn't a faint shaking anymore. Our whole house was moving! I jumped up off the couch, because we have this picture collage over it, and I thought they were all going to fall off.

Grant was kind of smiling at first, but then he jumped up, too. We kind of just stood there for a second, and then I ran upstairs to go get Kendall.

Then it all stopped.

It only lasted about 10-15 seconds, but the amount of thoughts going through my head made it seem much, much longer.

So, I've heard different reports - some say it was a 4.7, others say is was a 5.0. Whatever it was, it was enough to scare us pretty good! In a sense, I'm glad I felt it, and that it wasn't substantial enough to cause any damage. But in another sense, it got me thinking about "the Big One," and how I hope it doesn't hit while we live here!

The epicenter was in Hawthorne, which is only about 15 miles away. Considering alot of the quakes in SoCal don't really hit right in Los Angeles, I think this woke alot of people up. Several people that have lived here most of their lives said this is one of the worst ones they've felt - probably just because of how close it was.

Grant's leaving for work now, and Hawthorne is just down the street from the base (remember that hotel we were staying at before we moved into our house last year? That was in Hawthorne). Makes me a little nervous, but I know he's in God's hands.

We didn't feel any aftershocks, which is great, because I don't know if I could've handled them.

Anyways, the good thing about this whole experience, is that I know I am not the least bit prepared for a bigger one. So, I'll be doing my homework, and getting a kit ready so next time we will be prepared.
